My greeting to the pace activists gathered in Hiroshima/Nagasaki
To the
Japan Council against A and H Bombs Gensuikyo
Please receive my greetings to all Japanese friends and peace activists now gathered at the traditional World Conference, as well as to the overseas delegates. I wish I could have joined you during these important days.
The threat of eradiation of all human beings in a nuclear war, has reached an scaring level, through the renewal of the nuclear arsenals, the ending of the INF treaty, the political tension between Iran and the US, the not solved problem with the North Korean nuclear ambitions, and the ignorance to the public wish for peace and peaceful development among the world leaders, and especially from the American president Donald Trump.
Peace activists are offered no rest.
I send greetings from Göteborg, my home town, where we have commemorated the Hiroshima Day 6th of August every year since 1995 and maybe even before – and we will do so also this year, with music and speeches in our little peace park in the center of town. This year on August 6th we launch a campaign to the local politicians to get Göteborg to sigh the Ican Cities Appeal. That campaign is our response to the very disappointing decision by the Swedish government not to sign the UN treaty. In Göteborg we have not given up!!!

Former chair of the Swedish Peace and Arbitration Society
